A dislocation or dislocation is all capsule-ligamentous injury with loss of contact of the articular surfaces because of severe trauma, which may be total (dislocation) or partial (subluxation). In clinical semiotics, the term is known as abartrosis or abarticulación.

In medicine, a dislocation is a separation of two bones where found in the joint. A dislocated bone is a bone that is no longer in its normal position. A dislocation can also cause damage to ligaments and nerves.

A dislocation is permanent separation of the two joint parts, that is, occurs when an extreme force is applied on a ligament, producing the separation of the ends of two bones connected.

General considerations

It may be hard to tell a dislocated bone from a broken bone (often talking about luxofractura). Both are considered emergencies and first aid to treat them are the same. Recovery from injuries in the surrounding ligaments dislocated joint usually takes between 3 and 6 weeks.
